Hi! I’m Briana, the Founder & Chief Rocker of Startup Noire. A huge Jay Z fan and a huger nerd, I spend a decent chunk of my waking hours on the computer. After years of experience managing the branding, marketing, and websites of numerous companies and brands, I decided I could best serve my community by giving back the best ways I knew how.
I built my first website when I was 9 years old, and like Diddy would say: can’t stop, won’t stop. After I built hundreds of websites and managed the social media accounts for other brands, I decided to take my talents and do it for myself.
I’ll be honest: I failed a lot. A whole lot. Took risks. Lost money. Broke stuff. You name it. But I also had some pretty good success as well.
In 2016, I opened an online gift shop called Pin Living Color that sells memorabilia from our favorite 90s black pop culture icons and classics. Issa hit! My little online shop that I started from my bed (no, literally) has been featured by BuzzFeed, Essence, Huffington Post, and was even in Issa Rae’s Awkward Black Girl box!
I learned a lot of stuff the hard way (but that’s how I like to learn), so that I can make things easier for you. “Hov did that, so hopefully you don’t have to go through that.” Building a profitable online business (#InTheBlack), one that makes money while you’re knocked out, actually isn’t as hard as people think.
